Konventionelle PWM-Umrichter erzeugen durch hochfrequentes Schalten ein rechteckförmiges Ausgangssignal mit hohen Oberschwingungsanteilen. Die Folgen: erhöhte Motorerwärmung (Zusatzverluste bis 20 %), Lagerschäden durch kapazitive Ableitströme, EMV-Probleme sowie störende Geräuschemissionen. Zudem lösen die hochfrequenten Ableitströme Standard-RCDs zuverlässig aus – auch ohne echten Fehlerfall. Der NFO Sinus-Umrichter eliminiert diese Probleme konstruktiv: Ein patentiertes Multilevel-Schaltverfahren erzeugt am Ausgang THD < 5 % – vergleichbar mit Netzspannung direkt vom Trafo. Kapazitive Ableitströme werden so weit reduziert, dass der Betrieb hinter einem handelsüblichen 30-mA-RCD (Typ A) problemlos und ohne Fehlauslösungen möglich ist.
