Domino Introduces the Gx-Series PRO Printhead to Support the Industry Transition to 2D Coding

Domino Printing Sciences (Domino) introduces the new Gx‑Series PRO Printhead, a new thermal inkjet (TIJ) solution designed to support the shift to GS1 Digital Link and variable 2D codes.

As retailers and supply chains demand greater transparency, GS1 2D coding is becoming central to packaging. Manufacturers therefore need systems that deliver larger print areas, high contrast, and reliable high‑speed performance on complex production lines.

The Gx‑Series PRO Printhead focuses on three priorities:
– Waste reduction: Enables applications such as dynamic pricing, automated expiry checks, and faster recalls by embedding batch and best‑before data directly in 2D codes. Combined with Domino Automation (software for centralized label design and distribution), it ensures correct code deployment, reduces waste, and minimises financial and regulatory risks.
– Speed: Produces high‑contrast GS1 2D codes at industrial line speeds. Integration with Domino’s R‑Series (vision system) provides inline inspection to verify every code and detect issues early.
– Compliance: Supports food manufacturers with water‑ and solvent‑based inks, developed in line with food packaging requirements, produced according to EuPIA GMP standards.

With a 23 mm print height, high resolution, strong optical density, and long throw distance, the printhead suits high‑throughput food packaging, fresh products, pharmaceuticals, and direct‑to‑box printing, as well as general applications. Combined with Domino Automation and R‑Series, it delivers a fully integrated coding, verification, and data solution from a single supplier.
